Christmas Revels

For our 10th anniversary season, Revels’ original show highlights Richard Henry Danas’ visit to Santa Barbara in 1836, when he attended a wedding of the De la Guerra family and wrote about it in Two Years Before the Mast. With a large company of actors, singers and dancers, a brass quintet, a string ensemble, and special guest artists, this year’s “The Christmas Revels” celebrates the traditions of the Rancho period in Central California.

Delight in the festivities for Anita de la Guerra’s Santa Barbara wedding, as guests Richard Henry Dana and his shipmates share special seasonal traditions with their Spanish hosts, exchanging sea shanties, English carols, and humming with the fandango, Las Posadas, mission music, and holiday favorites from Alta California’s Rancho period. This 10th anniversary show lets you experience authentic Chumash story-telling and enjoy the events described in Dana’s classic book, Two Years Before the Mast.

Performances are December 15 at 7:30 PM, December 16 at 2:30 and 7:30 PM, and December 17 at 2:30 PM.
